龙门西山南段两处大型斩山遗迹

Two Large-scale Sidehill Cutting Sites at South End of West Mount of Longmen

斩山是营建大型石窟的基本工事,龙门西山南端两处未完成的石窟工程尚保留了斩山施工遗迹,揭示出当时斩山工程的基本工序。同时,斩山遗迹的位置、规模以及壁面上后期补凿的小型窟龛,也反映出工程停工的时代背景。

Cutting mountains is the elementary work to excavate large-scale grottoes, there are two unfinished caves which remain construction relics of cutting mountain at the south end of the west-mountain in Longmen Grottoes, the phenomena reveal the basic work procedure of cutting-mountain construction in initial period. Meanwhile, the position and scale of the relics as well as the caves on the cutting-surface at a later stage reflect the historical background why these projects shut down.
