In the middle and late part of the Spring and Autumn, the primitive porcelain wares were dull in variety and simple in form. Most of the porcelains of this period were daily utensils of cup-like bowls with a few plates and jars. There were few ritual wares, which indicates a prominent trend of decline. The southward spreading of the Wu culture into the Taihu Lake Valley where the Yue Culture dominated, which caused the retreat of the Yue Culture toward further south, is believed to have a direct link to the decline of primitive porcelain in the middle and late Spring Autumn.
