此一回是新作者脂砚斋的较早回目,也是新旧作者之间较早的争论,说明当时新作者脂砚斋尚未取得旧作者畸笏叟的完全信任;而此一回也分明是脂砚斋代玉写作此书较早的篇章,是对曹頫旧作旧稿的修改和整合。这一时期的宝玉,仍然是曹頫少年时代的故事原型。

This chapter is the earlier one wrote by Zhiyanzhai, a new author, also in which the debate appears between old and new authors, shows that Zhiyanzhai didn't get Jihusou's complete trust at that time.Therefore, this chapter is the earlier one wrote by Zhiyanzhai as the prototype of Lin Daiyu, also it is the revision and integration of Cao Fu's original manuscript. In this period, Baoyu is still a prototype of teenage Cao Fu.
