A Comparative Study on the Interpretation of Modernity Pursuit and Desire in A Family of Distinction and The Golden Lock

张恨水和张爱玲是通俗文学的两大代表人物,二者在通俗小说的创作上也有着诸多可比之处。《金粉世家》和《金锁记》同为通俗小说的经典,在现代性的追求上既相同,又各具特色。日益膨胀的欲望也是二者共同关注的主题,对金钱、情感、人性三种欲望的解读,两部作品更是有着本质上的不同。通过对比可探究张恨水和张爱玲各自对通俗小说创作的独特思考。

Both Zhang Henshui and Zhang Ailing were the two major representatives of popular literature,who shared some comparisons in the creation of popular novels. A Family of Distinction and The Golden Lock are both classics of popular novels,which have the similarities and different characteristics in the pursuit of modernity. The expanding desire is also a common concern of the two works,while the two are fundamentally different from each other in their interpretation of the three desires of money,emotion and humanity. Through comparison,the unique thinking of Zhang Henshui and Zhang Ailing on the creation of popular novels can be explored.
