Ten years study of selenium status in stream sediments, rocks, soils, water, cereal crops and food, as well as in the human tissues, has shown a Se deficiency in most parts of this country. Some of the results are presented and discussed, especially in connection with etlology of Balkan nephropathy and high incidence of urinary tract tumors in endemic areas
