巴赫金的符号学思想,是在交往理论、对话理论中产生和发展起来的。他的指导思想却是意识形态学的。巴赫金认为,符号不是工具,符号是一种意识形态。故符号学是研究意识形态的一门科学。符号的存在不是别的,而是现实交际的物质化。意识形态的生产是一种连续的符号化过程。符号的意义属于整个意识形态。

The thought of Bahtin's semeiology is produced and developed in the theory of communication and dialogue. However, his guiding theory lies in the field of ideolody. Bahtin thinks that sign is not a tool , but a kind of ideology. So semeiology is a kind of science of ideology. The existence of sign is nothing but materialization of the current communication. The production of ideology is a course of symbolization and this course is also continuity . The theory of sign belongs to the whole ideology.
