In her novel Beloved, Toni Morrison suggests that the past and the present are interactive. And this essential message is dramatically demonstrated in its fragmentary narration. The story presents a deep and multidimensional view of the slavery history by visiting and revisiting the former slaves' past experience. This review, reflection and reconstruction of the past help people establish their self-identity in history and society.
