A contact surface experiences the mechanical force, also endures the thermal load during service due to friction. The effect of these combined stresses has been analyzed in order to understand the thermal stress distribution.A model focuses a numerical method, based on the finite element method, for the thermo-mechanical finite element analysis of coupled stresses states in rolling-sliding contact. The problem is considered to be as two-dimensional. Commercial finite element software ANSYS5.7 has been used for the analysis. Finally, temperature gradients on contact area under coupled thermal and mechanical loads are calculated. The fluctuation on temperature history curve reflects the discontinuity of deformation. Contact region behaviors are explained and maximal shear stress and deformation history are also analyzed. Rolling-sliding is one reason of curved wear on contact surface.
