根据国家统计局对城镇居民和农村居民家庭收支抽样调查资料显示,1998年与1997年相比,城镇居民人均食品消费支出减少15.7元,下降0.81％,在总消费支出中所占份额由46.41％下降到44.48％;农村居民人均食品消费支出减少40.64元,下降4.56％,在总生活消费性支出中所占份额由55.05％下降到53.43％。

Statistics show that in 1998, per capita food expense in both urban and rural areas in China dropped in terms of both relative ratio and absolute value from previous years. The figures show a direct correlation between food expense and income, with fluctuations in income and economic cycles causing a drop in food expense. It is suggested that the key solution to maintain food consumption levels is to ensure continuous growth of the demand for agricultural products.
