March to the Future: General Development Tendency of Economy and Technology in the 21^(st) Century

21世纪的世界经济将沿着知识化、全球化的方向发展与提升。概括地说,21世纪世界经济与科技发展有两大趋势,一是科学技术继续加速发展,知识经济将成为主导的经济形态;二是经济全球化。为此,我国应有重点、有选择地发展高新技术产业,做好加入WTO后的各项工作,积极推进国际贸易和引进外资,并在经济发展过程中维护和保障国家安全。

The world economy will become more and more knowledgeable and globalized in the 21st century. Generally speaking, there are two tendencies. One is scientific development will accelerate continuously; the other is the globalization of world economy. To cater for this developmental tendency, our actions should be based on the following points: China should develop its high-tech industry with choice and inclination; Supplemental work after our accession to WTO should be well done; We should promote actively international trade and introduce foreign investment, and attach more importance in safeguarding country safety in the process of economic development.
