Starting from the notion of interface study the paper makes a comparison between the academic traditions in China and the West, and suggests that they both have respective merits and shortcomings and can complement each other. The West tradition is characterized in its disciplinary classification. Although it upheld the banner of interface study in recent years it had difficulty in actual practice. It can borrow Chinese experience of re-interpretation. The Chinese tradition is characterized in integration which is easier to practice within its own system but finds difficult to communicate with the Western disciplinary system. And over-emphasis of integration leads to lacking of certain precision which China may learn from the West.
