夏济安的《黑暗的闸门》(英文版)在出版了近半个世纪之后才有中译本出现。作为一个自由知识分子,夏济安从"同情的批评"和"文化批评"角度出发,聚焦文学与政治的角力关系,对中国现代左翼文人的悲剧命运进行了深入的阐释,该作所体现出的"史家意识"与"文学洞见"直到今天还没有得到学界的充分认识。

Hsia Tsi-an's The Gate of Darkness is published for the first time when the English version appeared nearly half a century. Hsia Tsi-an is a liberal intellectual who can puts the political bias aside. From the perspective of 'sympathy of criticism'and ' cultural criticism',he focuses on the literature that wrestled with the politics,and gives a further explanation of Chinese modern leftist writers which transmits a tragic fate of this writers. Nowadays,the historical consciousness and the insight in literature of this book have not been fully understand.
