21世纪对编辑提出了更高的要求 ,既要有扎实的语言功底、编辑和编排技能 ,也要有一定深度的专业理论知识。在知识上既要博又要专 ,既要做编辑也要做学术研究 ,以编辑工作带动学术研究 ,又以学术研究促进编辑水平的提高 ,这样才能更快提高刊物的学术质量。要学会媒体的经营与管理。同时要掌握编辑工作和学术研究的一些必要工具 ,如电脑、外语、知识产权等。

The 21st century has set higher demands for editors, who should not only have firm linguistic competence and editing skills but also possess some professional theoretic expertise. In other words, editors should have both general and specific capabilities, that is, they should be able to both edit and conduct academic research, promoting their academic research through editing work and upgrading their editing level by virtue of academic research. It is only by so doing can journals of liberal arts be improved academically. Therefore, editors should learn how to manage and operate media and try to have a command of some skills needed for editing and academic research such as computer skills, foreign languages, property right of knowledge, etc.
