When rays of the sunset wander around buildings in the flourishing country at nightfall, it’time for white-collar workers to get off work. People rush to the street from every corner o office buildings and get on a bus or a private car or are squashed into a subway train. The constitute the city’s evening peak. At 19:30, it gets dark, and lamps begin to light up. Then, an unbridled and restless world which is totally different from that in the daytime, lights up. At 21:30, stories that belong to the night appear: lobsters in the south and barbecues in th north;crazy electronic music in bars on Sanlitun Bar Street, Beijing;fantastic neon light on Huaihai Road, Shanghai;the traditional night fair in Dali Old Town, Yunnan;and lonel ness and noisiness on Bakuo Street, Lhasa…At the night that seemingly never ends, peo ple spend their time in different ways. Behind their laughs and dissipation is the explosiv growth of China’s night economic consumption index.
