On Mao Dun's View of Women

茅盾的妇女观因“五四”时代思潮而发端。早期基于人道主义和自我牺牲精神的矛盾之论 ,引发于自我包办婚姻的感同身受 ;后期为了真爱可以忘掉一切的惊世之语 ,源于自己对浪漫的渴求和婚外恋情的尝试。

Mao Dun's view of women was started with the influence of the 'May Fourth Movement'. At earlier time, Mao Dun mainly expressed his feeling about arranged marriage with his humanism and self-sacrifice spirit. Later, he declared that one can forget everything for the sake of true love. This was due to his desire for romantic love and his trial of love affairs outside marriage.
