Biometrics,Electoral Expertise and Democratic Certification in Africa:Revisiting International Democratic Engineering through its Materiality

This article would question the role of international "democratic engineering"in the material production of new objects that supposed to guarantee the holding of transparent elections.Material concerns about the technicisation of elections in Africa now occupy the center of pre-and post-electoral debates.These new technologies and procedures pose major challenges in the transformation of the ordinary representations of the credibility of the vote,and therefore in that of representations of electoral citizenship.The main argument of this article is to give another reading of the success and failures of electoral reforms by observing them through their materiality.
