Bernard·Malamud is an American novelist.This article is inspired by the theme of marriage choice involved in his novel"The Assistant."As a shoemaker,the father has his view of marriage different from his daughter's choice,and while he fears that the child's ultimate choice will not lead to a happy ending as he has been expecting,he will ultimately respect her own choice.With a sympathetic and distorted humorous attitude,the author introduces the readers the pursuit of a good life and the advanced concept of children's education getting from immigrants to the United States.
