谣俗既可以反映现实,作为了解社会历史发展的途径,也常常被认为具有预言征兆的性质,来预决吉凶祸福。因此有人精心撰造谣谚,或是有意利用谣谚来达到自己的目的,造成了重大事件,产生了重大影响。谣俗的产生既与民众对社会历史发展的好奇与探索有关,也和天人感应、谶纬迷信的传统观念有关。
