《月下独酌》韦利、宾纳英译本比较研究

A Comparative Study onWaley’s and Bynner’s English Versions of Drinking Alone under the Moon

英国汉学家韦利和美国汉学家宾纳在唐诗英译方面都取得了斐然成绩,对唐诗在英语世界的传播做出了贡献。选取二人《月下独酌》译文,从意境和韵律两个层面进行比较,则韦利的直译和宾纳的意译很大程度上都实现了原诗意境的再现,同时韦利的“弹性节奏”兼顾了唐诗音美和英诗的韵律感。二者都竭力保持唐诗意境和韵律之美的翻译模式和策略,值得中西方翻译工作者借鉴和学习。

English Sinologist Waley and American Sinologist Bynner have made remarkable achievements in translating Tang poetry into English and contributed to the spread of Tang poetry in the English-speaking world.Their English versions of Drinking Alone under the Moon are compared in terms of artistic conception and rhythm in this paper.It is found that Waley’s literal translation and Bynner’s free translation both achieve the reproduction of the original poetic mood to a great extent.At the same time,Waley’s“elastic rhythm”takes into account both the beauty of Tang poetry and the sense of rhythm in English poetry.Both of the two English versions strive to maintain the beauty of artistic conception and rhythm of Tang poetry,which is worth learning by Chinese and western translators.
