小说《面纱》及其电影改编的时长对比研究——以叙事学为视角

A Comparative Study on the Length of the Novel “The Painted Veil” and Its Film Adaptation——From the Perspective of Narratology

文学与影视剧创作的互动已经持续了一个多世纪,由毛姆经典小说《面纱》改编的同名电影(2006版)就是众多改编影视剧中的一部优质作品。小说和电影同为叙事行为,采用完全不同的叙事媒介,呈现出来的叙事文本自然各有千秋,但它们都具备的叙事性又必定会导致二者之间存在一些共通之处。时间在任何一种叙事行为中都不可或缺,时间问题必定是叙事文本研究的核心之一,而时长问题则是重点研究的一个时间概念。文章结合热拉尔·热奈特和西摩·查特曼的叙事学理论,从时间二元性出发,对比研究两个文本中的时长问题。

The interaction between literature and film&television origination has been going on for more than a century.The film(2006)adaptation of Maugham’s classic novel“The Painted Veil”is one of the best adapted works.The novel and the film are both narrative mediums though they adopt completely different narrative media.Naturally,the narratives presented by them have their own advantages and disadvantages.Since they all are narrating,it will inevitably lead to some common points between them.Time is indispensable in any kind of narrative behavior,and it must be one of the cores in narrative research,while duration is a key concept of time.Based on the narratology theories of Gerard Genette and Seymour Chatman,this paper compares and studies the duration of two narrative types from the perspective of time duality.
