From "The Higurashi" to "The Glass Slipper":Behind the Changing Titles of Shotaro Yasuoka’s First Novel

安冈章太郎的处女作小说《水晶鞋》,最初拟定的题目是“暮蝉”,“水晶鞋”是其接受佐藤春夫等人的建议修改而来。这一改动对小说的接受产生了很大影响,评论界普遍对“水晶鞋”这一标题给予了盛赞,并做出了充分的阐述。然而长期以来,小说最初的标题“暮蝉”却没有得到足够的关注。本文从小说标题的作用出发,考察两个标题与小说内容的关系,并由此探明隐藏在改题背后的深层次原因。

Shotaro Yasuoka's debut novel,The Glass Slipper,was first titled "The Higurashi".This change in title,which was advised by Haruo Sato,greatly influenced the acceptance of this novel.The new title,"The Glass Slipper",received widespread praise from critics,and was variously interpreted by researchers.However,as"The Higurashi" vanished from the sights of readers after the publication of this novel,this original title has so far drawn little attention from critics.This paper first cuses on the functions of these two titles,then from this perspective,takes a closer look at the two titles and their relationships with the text,and finally,uncovers the in-depth reason behind the change of the title.
