西周英译词的翻译策略研究——以新造词「哲学」和「演繹法」为例

A Study of the Translation Strategies for the Words Translated by Nishi Amane: Taking Coinages "Philosophy" and "Deduction" as an Example

西周是明治维新时期著名的哲学家和翻译家,翻译了诸多词汇流传至今,如“哲学”“肯定”“否定”“帰納法”“演繹法”“本能”等,其中有很多是西周自己研究出来的新造词。本文拟以“哲学”和“演繹法”两词的翻译过程为例,对其英译词的翻译策略及其原因和意义进行总结分析以探讨汉学对中外互译实践的重要意义。

Nishi Amane was a famous philosopher and translator in the Meiji Restoration period.He translated many words which are still in use nowadays,such as"philosophy","affirmation","negation","induction","deduction","instinct",etc,many of which were created by himself.Taking the translation process of two words"philosophy"and"deduction"as an exampie,this paper makes a summary and analysis of translation strategies,reasons and meanings of his translated words in order to explore the significance of Sinology to the Chinese and foreign reciprocal translation practice.
