Trifles is a classic feminist play written by Susan Glaspell.From the perspectives of the subjection and resistance of the women against the men's authority,this paper analyzes the aroused wom?en's self-consciousness in the play.The bumptious male characters make fun of the female characters con?cerning only about trifles,which reflects women's neglected and subjected position in their family.On the other side,Mrs.Wright attains self-salvation by counterattacking her husband and breaking free from the bondage,which triggers a sisterhood relation between Mrs.Hale and Mrs.Peters.The two decide to con?ceal Mrs.Wright's crime.The three women succeed in their resistance after the long oppression.The pro?cess from subjection to resistance demonstrates the awakening of the women’s self-consciousness.
