The documentary Under the Apple Tree tells the story and the image of Hu Wanzeng and his wife’s difficulties in apple planting and raising a pair of mentally handicapped children artistically in the language of calm and objective documentary lens, taking apple planting as the main line and family life as the auxiliary line. It is not easy for a family to survive and worry about its development. Through the description of the difficult life and impeded development of the Hu family, it shows the strong character of a person who does not complain about nature, and the simple concept of life that still remain optimistic in the predicament.
