Diabetic nephropathy(DN), one of the major microvascular complications of diabetes, is a progressive and irreversible renal damage, which has become the primary cause of end-stage renal disease. Proteinuria is the main clinical manifestation of DN, but its mechanism is not completely clear at present. Modern medicine still lacks specific drugs for it. Therefore, the in-depth molecular mechanism of DN is still a research hotspot. Recent studies have shown that PTEN/PI3 K/Akt signaling pathway is closely related to the pathogenesis of DN, and is also a common mechanism of action of many traditional Chinese medicine prescriptions and monomers. Therefore, based on PTEN/PI3 K/Akt signaling pathway, this paper reviews the existing research results of TCM on this pathway, with a view to providing a theoretical basis for the prevention and treatment of DN in TCM.
