In April 2019,Toyota announced royalty-free license on its 23,740 patents for vehicle electrificationrelated technologies,including about 8,060 patents in the field of fuel cells.This paper conducts systematical study on Toyota's fuel cells patents,including technology distribution,application year,protection strategy and industry layout,revealing Toyota’s patent protection and R&D strategy in fuel cell vehicles.
