Warming Yang and Resolving Stasis Method Used in Treating Senile Dementia

老年期痴呆的基本病因病机是由于年龄增长,阳气及五脏机能衰弱导致的元神失聪、神机失用,记忆力和人脑智能的衰退。根据中医“脑主神明”与“五脏藏神”理论,结合中医对“阴阳生化”的认识,初步得出痴呆的主要病机本质是“阳化不足,阴化太过”。“阴化太过”,痰瘀沉着血脉,神机失养;“阳化不足”,五脏虚衰、神机失用。因此,五脏阴阳当以温养为主,使其血气充盈,达到“藏精气而不泻”,使阳气充沛,升降有度,达到“精则养神”,使神机运转正常。脑为清窍,以清灵通透为用,痰浊瘀血当以温化为治则。五脏温阳化瘀汤具有壮元阳、滋肾阴、补脑髓、促气化、消痰瘀、醒神窍的功用,治疗老年期痴呆疗效确切。

The basic etiology and pathogenesis of senile dementia is dysfunction of the Zang as well as the deterioration of vitality due to aging,hence the loss of memory and human brain intelligence.According to the theories of"brain governs spirit"and"five Zang store*Spirit'in traditional Chinese medicine,combined with the understanding of“Yin and Yang relationship”in Chinese medicine practitioners,it is concluded that the main pathogenesis of dementia is"insufficient Yang and excessive Yin".When Phlegm and Stisis suffocate in the blood,the spirit would not be nourished properly.When with insufficient Yang,the five Zang organs are weak and the spirit would be lost.Therefore,the Yin and Yang of the five Zang organs should be warmed so that the blood and Qi can be filled to achieve the function of storing vitality,so that the Yang would be abundant and the movement of Yang Qi would be normal,to make the spirit system operate normally.The brain works well in a clear state.When it is turbid or with abnormal blood condition,it should be treated by warming tonification.Wuzang Wenyang Huayu Decoction has the functions of strengthening Yuan Yang,tonifying Kidney Yin,supplementing Brain,helping Qi activity,dissolving Phlegm and Stasis and clearing mind,and it is effective in treating patients with dementia.
