The trend of U.S.-Cuba relations is one of the hot issues in the post-cold war era. The Vatican has played the roleof a diplomatic intermediary by doing more in coordinating U.S.-Cuba relations and directly promoting and participating inthe negotiations between the two sides. What the Vatican and the Pope have done keeps in line with their own logic andstarting point. Maintaining the interests of the Catholic church and Christians in Cuba and expanding the Vatican’s globalinfluence are the main motivations. The Vatican’s concern and participation in the U.S.-Cuba relations have promoted thedevelopment of Catholicism in Cuba and highlighted the particularity of Vatican diplomacy.
