New Characteristics of Contemporary Cultural Imperialism and Its Criticism

在当代经济全球化深入扩展以及信息技术革命大发展的情况下,作为后殖民范式主要代表的文化帝国主义具有了新特征,而其给全球带来的文化危机必须引起我们高度警惕。当代文化帝国主义新特征主要表现在四个方面,即输出型文化产业体系的建立、文化输出的大众化与意识形态输出的隐蔽性、“网络文化帝国主义”的形成、固守“西方文明优越论”及文明冲突论思维。当代文化帝国主义所引发的文化危机体现在三个方面:一是破坏世界文明的多样性,二是威胁各民族国家的文化认同和文化主权,三是阻碍人类精神文明进步,将人类引向物质主义与享乐主义。面对这种情况,我们不仅要立足于民族国家自身并借助最新的信息技术手段进行分析批判,而且要联合其他国家,抵御全球性的文化帝国主义。

As modern economic globalization further deepens and the revolution of information technology intensifies,cultural imperialism has emerged as the main representation of the post-colonial paradigm,obtaining a series of new characteristics.The resulting cultural crisis deserves high vigilance.The new characteristics of contemporary cultural imperialism are manifested in four main aspects,namely,the establishment of export-oriented system of cultural industry,the popularization of cultural output and the concealment of ideology output,the formation of“network cultural imperialism”,as well as the adherence to“the superiority of Western civilization”thesis and the“clash of civilization”theory.The cultural crisis triggered by contemporary cultural imperialism is reflected in three aspects:firstly,it undermines the diversity of world civilizations;secondly,it threatens the cultural identity and sovereignty of each nation-state;thirdly,it hinders the progress of human spiritual civilization by diverting humanity to materialism and hedonism.Facing with this situation,we should analyse and criticize it not only based on the nation-states themselves and by means of the latest information technology,but also ally ourselves with other nations to form a global defense against cultural imperialism.
