Because honesty has a great deal to do with the safety, health and welfare of the public, almost all professional ethics regulations throughout the world have proposed high standards concerning“Honesty”,making“Honesty”a dual appeal for engineering professional ethics and engineers’professional virtue.Through the case analysis of the“6·15 Jiujiang Bridge Collapse Accident”happening in Guangdong province in 2007,the paper provides practical ways as to how engineers can be honest in a specific engineering context.First, engineers should provide the accountable testimony to the public as professionals in engineering, trying to avoid possible ethical trap;secondly, they should use their own professional knowledge to explain the causal relationships between the incident and evaluate the technical problems in the incident;thirdly, they should report honestly to represent the professional judgment of the profession, honestly respond the public’s doubts, fourthly, they should actively do what they are supposed to do,especially when the use of technology involves unusual or undetected risks.
