In Othello, Shakespeare depicted a vivid evil character Iago. After an analysis to Iago’s ethical identity from the perspective of the theory of Sphinx factor from Professor Nie Zhenzhao, it revealed the ethical reason of his evil that due to the active animal factor, he lost his ethical consciousnesses and thus made improper ethical choices.Owing to his improper ethical choices, it finally rendered the ruin of four characters. It also reflects the ethical value and moral edification which Shakespeare expressed in Othello.
