比较哲学视域下古典汉语特征及对典籍英译的思考——美国汉学家任博克教授访谈录

Characteristics of Chinese in Classical Period and Reflections on Translation in the Perspective of Comparative Philosophy:Interview with American Philosopher,Sinologist and Translator Brook Ziporyn

任博克教授是美国知名哲学家与汉学家。他于2009年出版了《庄子》英文选译本,目前正应哈克特(Hackett)出版社之邀翻译《庄子》全译本。此次访谈中,任博克教授以中西比较的视域探讨了古典时期汉语和印欧语言的语法差异及其对中西哲学产生的不同影响,从语言学的源头解释了中西方对“一多关系”的不同理解,深入分析了古典时期汉语特征,并以亲身翻译实践为例提出了对典籍英译的一些思考。

Brook Ziporyn is a well-known American philosopher and sinologist.He published the English translation of selected chapters in“Zhuangzi”in 2009,and is currently translating“Zhuangzi”of the full version at the invitation of Hackett Publishing Company.In this interview,he explores the grammatical differences between Chinese and Indo-European languages in the classical period and influences on Chinese and Western philosophy.He explains the different understandings toward the relationship of“one”and“many”between China and the West from the linguistic origin to further analyze the characteristics of Chinese in the classical period and takes his firsthand translation practices as examples to provide some reflections on the English translation of Chinese Classics.
