The Artistic Characteristic of Myth: Ernst Cassirer’s Discussion about Art and Myth

卡西尔认为,艺术起源于神话。因为神话是无意识的虚构,具有概念和感性、理论与艺术的双重结构,是直观与情感的统一,有交感性特点。所以,神话自诞生起就具有艺术品性,但神话不是艺术,因为神话是人类早期文明探寻世界本源的活动,人们对神话是信以为真的,而艺术创作的虚构性是自知自觉的。

Ernst Cassirer argues that art are originated from myth,because mythes are some kind of unconscious fictions that are double-sturctured between conception and sensation,and unify perception and feeling. In this way,myth is endowed with artistic characteristic at the beginning. However, myth is not as same as art. Myth is make-believed to early humans for they didn’ t truly understand the world,while artistic creation is made up in a free conscious way.
