A Dream of Red Mansions,written in the mid-18th century,is by no means a classical novel in the traditional sense.In this novel,there are a large number of elements of Modern Novel in the 19th and 20th centuries,including:using multiple themes,utilizing multiple artistic techniques of creation such as symbolism,magic realism etc.,characterizing complex rounded characters,adopting multi-perspective and multi-dimensional narrative methods,and so on.A Dream of Red Mansions embodies the modernity of literature in a certain sense.Therefore,we should fully understand the modern value of A Dream of Red Mansions as a classical novel.
