Objective To translate the English version of Beliefs about Medicines Questionnaire-Specific into Chinese and test the reliability and validity of the Chinese version among patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Methods The English version of Beliefs about Medicines Questionnaire-Specific was translated into a Chinese version, which was later back-translated.Totally,118 type 2 diabetic patients were recruited and investigated with the Chinese version of Beliefs about Medicines Questionnaire-Specific to test the internal consistency,test-retest reliability, content validity, construct validity and discriminative validity. Results The Cronbach′sαcoefficient of the two dimensions of Beliefs about Medicines Questionnaire-Specific was 0.749 and 0.796,the test-retest reliability coefficient was 0.809 and 0.751.The content validity index(CVI)of items ranged from 0.857 to 1.000,and the average CVI was 0.980 for the total scale. Two factors were extracted by exploratory factor analysis, and named as concerns and necessity respectively, which contributed an accumulative 62.25%of the total variance.Significant differences were found between the higher score and lower score groups(P<0.01).Conclusion The Chinese version of Beliefs about Medicines Questionnaire-Specific enjoys satisfactory reliability and validity, which favors its use in mainland Chinese type 2 diabetes patient.
