梁漱溟的《东西文化及其哲学》是从整体上回应新文化运动的书。该书从保守主义立场极力高扬以孔子及儒家思想为中心的中国固有文化,断言世界上有三条不同的文化路向,即西方是意欲向前的,中国是意欲自为调和的,印度是根本取消意欲的,世界将来都要走中国文化的路,而中国文化的路,就是孔子的路。此书一出世,就受到思想界高度关注,受到多方面的批评。该书客观上提出了有重大意义的问题,但没有解决问题。该书存在的最大问题是违反基本学术规范,不重事实,不重证据,全凭主观武断。

The Cultures of East and West and Their Philosophies is a book that responds to the New Culture Movement as a whole,and is a book that vigorously promotes Chinese culture centered on Confucius and Confucianism from a conservative standpoint.The book asserts that there are three different cultural paths in the world:the west desires to move forward;China desires harmonization through adjustment;India eliminates desires.It also asserts that the world will follow the path of Chinese culture in the future,and the path of Chinese culture is Confucius’path.As soon as the book was published,it was highly concerned by the thinkers and was criticized in many ways.The book raises important issues,but it does not solve them.The biggest problem is that Mr.Liang violates the basic academic norms,neglects facts and evidence and reaches the conclusion based on subjective judgement.
