[Purpose/significance] In order to help scholars to understand the application and prospect of collective action theory in the field of information systems research, and provide suggestions for improving the further study of this theory and expanding its application scenarios.[Method/process] After reviewing the relevant literatures based on collective action theory in the field of information systems, the paper summarizes the current status of research and puts forward some key fields that should be paid attention to in the future.[Result/conclusion] It is found that the application of collective action theory in information system research mainly focuses on three aspects:the influence of information and communication technology on the collective action of organizations, the influencing factors of inter-organizational cooperative development of information systems and the influencing factors of online community knowledge sharing; There are several problems in current research, such as "only investigate the performance of members in static and one-time collective action","the impact of negative incentives on member behavior is not considered".Several promising research fields in the future include "investigating members’ behavior in dynamic and repeated collective action","exploring the influence of negative incentive measures on members’ participation in collective action","applying the theory of collective action to new fields and scenarios" and so on.
