摘要
作为美国文化研究的代表,格罗斯伯格素以"语境主义"著称。英国文化研究的战后经验是其语境理解的历史起源。美国文化研究的学科化与商业化,使他倡导"媒介文化研究"而反思"媒介研究",主张"社会语境中的媒介建构"。他以"中介"解释"媒介",强调媒介的居中性与可能性;以"实践"把握"建构",彰显建构的能动性与政治性。从"语境"走向"情势",他探索着一种历史唯物主义与"偶然性"兼容的认知途径。"中介"旨在反思"欧式现代性-康德主义"这一"历史-哲学"统一体,其思想意义在于凝视"实在"而关心"潜在",追寻一种可能性的未来想象。
As a representative of cultural studies scholars in the United States,Lawrence Grossberg is well known for his"contextualism". His thinking has its origin in the British cultural studies’ experience after World War Ⅱ. The disciplinary and commercial characters of American cultural studies spur Grossberg to promote "Media Cultural Studies"and rethink of "Media Studies",and root his thoughts in"media constructed in the social context". Grossberg explains"media"via"mediation",and lays stress on the betweenness and the possibilities of"media". To comprehend"constructing"via"practice",he highlights the initiative and political nature of construction. From"context"to"conjuncture",he explores a cognitive approach that is compatible with historical materialism and"contingency"."Mediation"aims to rethink of the"historical-philosophical"unification of"Euro modernity-Kantianism". Thus,the connotation of Grossberg is,to gaze into"the actual",to care for"the virtual",and to pursue a future full of possibilities.
