败酱草为我国传统中药,始载于《神农本草经》,为败酱科多年生草本植物黄花败酱、白花败酱的带根全草,具有清热解毒、消痈排脓、祛瘀止痛之功效,古代医家已应用于妇科。近些年,对败酱草的现代研究表明,败酱草含有多样的化学成分,具有很高的药用价值,可用于治疗急慢性盆腔炎、子宫内膜炎、输卵管阻塞性不孕症、乳腺炎等多种妇科疾病,临床应用日益广泛,取得了非常满意的疗效。
