日本汉学家太田辰夫的《西游记》研究主要包括《西游记》的成书过程研究与版本研究两个方面,在此基础上他还提出了《西游记真诠》最适合读者阅读这一独特的文艺见解。他的研究从精细的文本分析出发,通过丰富联想,从而对不同阶段的西游故事进行大胆推测还原,观点新颖独特,给人不少启发。不过,这些大胆的推测往往缺少可靠的文献依据,有待进一步的考证探究。

The study of Journey to the West by Japanese sinologist OTA Tatsuo mainly includes two aspects: the study of its writing process and the study of its versions. On this basis, he also puts forward the unique literary view that the True interpretation of Journey to the West is most suitable version for readers to read. His research starts from the fine text analysis, through the rich association, thus carries on the bold conjecture restoration to the stories of Journey to the west in different stages, which appears to be novel and unique and provides the readers a lot of inspirations. However, these bold speculations often lack reliable literature bases and need further textual research.
