The professional skills competition is an effective platform to stimulate students’ interest and develop their practical ability. The effects of the organization and implementation of two national university students animal science skills competitions are analyzed, which indicate that the competition can stimulate students’ enthusiasm and initiative, enhance professional confidence, improve comprehensive quality of students, and cultivate students’ rigorous learning attitude, teamwork and innovative spirit.
