Jia Pingwa’s novel Shanben shows the complex historical changes of China in the 1920 s and 1930 s by describing the rise and fall of honor and Disgrace in Vortex Town of Qinling Mountains. Therefore, the vulgarity and ugliness of human nature, the bloody killing, the violence and cruelty of death become the objects of the works. This clearly shows the author’s unique aesthetic concept, that is, Jia Pingwa’s analysis of ugly things to show people, in order to reveal the truth of history and human nature, make people feel the complexity and depth of history and reality, thus bringing readers a broader reading horizon and deeper aesthetic experience.
