UC Berkeley is one of the exemplary U.S. public universities. Since its establishment in 1868, it has made extraordinary contributions to numerous fields, including the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory,one of the nuclear weapon research centers in the USA. UC Berkeley ranks among the top universities in physics,chemistry, computer sciences, engineering, economics and beyond, providing outstanding talents to the world. The Anti-Vietnam War Movement and Free Speech Movement that originated from UC Berkeley in 1960 s made its name, changing the world’s view on politics and ethics for generations. Besides, UC Berkeley was also home to Clark Kerr, the famous university president and Chang-Lin Tien, the first Chinese-American university president in the USA. Through one year’s scholarly visit to UC Berkeley, the author was able to appreciate its historical and modern features, recognize its core capabilities as a world-leading university, and make acquaintance with Professor Martin Trow, founder of the Mass Higher Education Theory.
