The Flying Bird Buddha in the Anjuku of Asuka-dera is considered to be the earliest Buddha statue in existence in Japan. It is also a record of the works of Master Zhili. It was burned down in the fire of Kamakura for Jianjiu seventh year(1196).Only the head and hands were left, and then repaired.Judging from the details of the statues while comparing with the same parts of the Sakyamuni statue of the Horyuji Temple, which can still be seen that the producers of the two works are the same person, that is,the Mater Zhili. The clothing style of the Flying Birds Buddha at least shows that China’s“Southern Buddha Costume Belt”has passed to Japan at the very beginning of the 7th century, making the existing Buddha statues in Japan deeply influenced by the Southern Dynasty.
