Principles of language and critical thinking integrated teaching

如何在英语教学中培养思辨能力?如何同步提高语言能力和思辨能力?这些是当前高校英语专业技能课程教学改革乃至大学英语教学改革的重要命题和紧迫任务。本文提出思辨英语教学八项原则--TERRIFIC,包括:对标(Target)、评价(Evaluate)、操练(Routinize)、反思(Reflect)、探究(Inquire)、实现(Fulfill)、融合(Integrate)、内容(Content),旨在为思辨型英语课堂教学设计提供策略和路径。希望上述原则的实施能够有效促进高校英语专业乃至大学英语教学改革创新与人才培养质量提升。

One of the top priority issues in the pedagogical reform of the English departments and college English teaching in Chinese higher education is how to develop critical thinking in language teaching, or how to develop language proficiency and critical thinking at the same time. This paper proposes eight teaching principles including Targeting, Evaluating, Routinizing, Reflecting, Inquiring, Fulfilling, Integrating, and Content(TERRIFIC) in order to provide strategies and guidelines for the teaching design of language and critical thinking integrated instruction. It is hoped that implementing these principles will lead to English language teaching innovation and quality improvement.
