由于近代社会环境以及文学发展的实况,梅光迪的文艺思想常被归入文化保守主义。诚然,梅光迪确是以倡导传统文化为核心展开学术实践的,但其学术实践的核心是传统文化如何实现现代转化。纵观梅光迪参与新文化运动相关论争的关键节点与典型事件,结合其学术思想的构成要素,可见他无论是与胡适论战强调传统文化价值,还是参与创办《学衡》杂志建立传统资源发声的舆论阵地,都体现了他以传统文化现代转化为核心的文艺思想。这种文艺思想体现了梅光迪对中国传统文化资源的深切认同,对白璧德新人文主义相关理论的借鉴和对中西融合的方法探索。

Due to the modern social environment and literary development,Mei Guangdi’s thoughts are often classified as cultural conservatism. He initiated academic practice with the advocacy of traditional culture,but the core of his practice is how to realize the modern transformation of traditional culture. Throughout the keynote and typical events related disputes of the New Culture Movement,combing his academic thoughts,both his debate with Hu Shi which emphasized traditional cultural values,and his participation in the establishment of Xue Heng magazine which established a position of public opinion for the sound of traditional resources,reflected Mei Guangdi’s literary and artistic thoughts with modern transformation of traditional culture as the core. This stems from Mei Guangdi’s deep recognition of traditional Chinese culture,and his exploration of related theories of Bai Bide’s new humanism and integration of Chinese and Western methods.
