美国南方文艺复兴女作家卡森·麦卡勒斯以小说中的怪诞意象而闻名。其名作《伤心咖啡馆之歌》中怪诞意象历来是研究的热点,"怪诞"一词也成为解读《伤心咖啡馆之歌》的关键所在。该论文试图以怪诞叙事为出发点,探索怪诞与小说的美学效果之间的联系。从"畸零人"的塑造,主要人物之间的怪诞情感纠葛以及扎根于南方小镇的怪诞空间这三个角度来挖掘怪诞意象所赋予作品的美学表征,通过该论文的研究以发现这部小说实则是麦卡勒斯精心铺陈的一幅由反讽张力构成的独特审美画卷。

As a female writer of the Southern Renaissance,Carson Mc Cullers is renowned for her creation of the grotesque images.Her representative work The Ballads of Sad Cafe has been constantly researched in terms of its grotesqueness which also becomes the key to studying the work.Based upon the grotesque narration in the novel,the paper tries to explore the relation between the grotesqueness and the aesthetic effects it brings from the aspects of grotesque characters,love triangles,and the limited strange space based upon the southern town.Through the study,the thesis is aimed to find that The Ballads of Sad Cafe is a work of aestheticism full of the irony elaborately weaved by Carson McCullers.
