Research and Enlightenment on the Urban Renewal Design in Marshalling Station Area of Industrial Abandoned Railway——A Case of NORTHEND Area in Charlotte, NC

本文从废弃铁路遗产的尺度及整体形态角度出发,对当今世界范围内废弃铁路改造项目进行研究,将其总结归纳为"点""线""面"三种更新模式并举例说明。基于以上讨论,对北卡罗来纳州夏洛特NORTHEND地区废弃铁路编组站区域不同形态的铁路遗产与城市空间由点及面地提出合理的设计策略。文章旨在以NORTHEND地区城市更新概念设计为例,以"点""线""面"三种更新模式为基础,进一步探讨铁路遗产的更新与再利用。

The paper carries out research on the renovation project of global abandoned railway from the perspective of scale and overall form of abandoned railway legacies, then summarizes them into three renewal modes which are respectively "point", "line" and "plane" with relevant examples presented for further explanation. At the same time, based on the above discussion, it proposes reasonable design strategies for railway heritage of different forms and urban spaces from point to plane within marshalling station area of industrial abandoned railway in NORTHEND(NE) area in Charlotte, NC. In this regard, the paper aims at discussing the renewal and reuse of railway heritage based on three renewal modes which are respectively "point", "line" and "plane" and taking concept design related to urban renewal in NE as an example.
