Nowadays, with the acceleration of the urbanization, the activities of the citizens present the requirements for diversity and abundance. Therefore, it is urgent to find the corresponding urban planning and design ideas. Valencia is the third largest city in Spain. The ancient urban area in the center of the city retains the mixed historical buildings of different periods and the public spaces such as streets and squares surrounded by them, which vividly demonstrate the historical and cultural heritage of the city. In addition to the ancient city, Valencia’s most attractive part is the continuing green belt transformed from the trunk riverbed of Turia River, which links up a series of important cultural buildings and public spaces. Through the systematic study of Valencia’s distinctive urban public space, this paper explores the tremendous improvement in people’s quality of daily life brought by the daily life-oriented urban design, with a view to provide a reference for the planning and design practice in China.
