The Achievements and Prospects of Macao in External Relations in the Past 20 Years

澳门特别行政区对外交往的法律依据不是《中葡联合声明》,而是宪法和澳门基本法。澳门基本法授予澳门在参与国家外交活动、参加国际组织或国际会议、缔结国际协议等方面广泛的对外交往权限。澳门回归20年来,对外交往能力得到较大提升,对外交往成就显著。随着“一带一路”建设和粤港澳大湾区建设的不断推进,澳门对外交往必将获得更广阔的发展空间。

The legal basis for Macao’s external relations is not the Sino-Portuguese Joint Declaration,but the Constitution of PRC and the Basic Law of Macao Special Administrative Region.The Basic Law authorizes Macao a wide range of power to conduct its external relations,such as participating in national diplomatic activities,international organizations and conferences,and making international agreements.In the past 20 years since its return,the Macao SAR has seen great improvement in its ability and remarkable achievements in external relations.With the development of the Belt and Road Initiative and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area,Macao’s external relations will surely gain broader development space.
